Kilimanjaro 
4 - 14 August 2026

This will be an unforgettable journey to the summit of Kilimanjaro (5895m), also known as the roof of Africa. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and is one of the seven summits. This ten day trek takes us up the Lemosho trail, which is the longest trail on the mountain and offers plenty of acclimatisation along the way. It is therefore suitable for trekkers of all levels and offers a very high summit success rate. The Lemosho route also offers spectacular scenery, remoteness, and the chance of spotting wildlife along the way.

We use only quality equipment with all our tents being 4 season tents. Our food is tasty comfort food and we like to think it's the best on the mountain.

Itinerary for 2026

Saturday 1 August:

​Depart for Kilimanjaro International airport 

​​​​​​

Sunday 2 August:

Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport where we will be met by our head guide. Transfer to the hotel , check in, followed by a briefing about the trek and a chance to get your equipment checked. Free afternoon to relax and enjoy the hotel.

Monday 3 August: Lemosho Gate to Big Tree Camp

After breakfast we will drive for approximately 2 hours to the Lemosho gate, where we will register and weigh our equipment and provisions. We will trek in lush tropical forest and, with luck, we may get to see some wildlife and some of Kilimanjaro’s more unusual flora. As with each day, we arrive at camp and find our sleeping tents set up and snacks and a selection of hot beverages placed in the dining tent. Dinner will soon follow before we call it a day.

Tuesday 4 August: Big Tree Camp to Shira Camp I

Today’s hike begins where we left off yesterday and soon the forest gives way to the heath and moorland zone. The pace slows down to allow for acclimating. The second half of the day’s hike is a steep section appropriately called ‘the elephant’s back’. At the end of this section, we have a  short descent down to our camp in full view of the snow-covered Kibo summit.

Wednesday 5 August: Shira Camp I to Shira Camp II

For today’s hike and if we have the energy, I always recommend we spend the morning exploring some features of the Shira Plateau. There are  wonderful views of the Shira Peaks and Kibo as well as those of Kilimanjaro’s southern slopes. This is also extremely helpful in the process of acclimatisation. We continue eastwards towards Kibo where our camp is situated.

Thursday 6 August: Shira Camp II to Barranco Camp

We will aim to leave camp early and take our time on the trail. The path is a gentle incline to Lava Tower (where we will break for lunch). Today will be a good test as we reach heights of 4,646 m. At this height it is perfectly normal for some to feel symptoms of altitude sickness. By design, the path descends down to camp and this should help with the recovery process should anyone succumb to altitude.

Friday 7 August: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

The first obstacle of the day is the famous ‘Barranco wall’. There is a start-stop motion early in the morning with the porters trying to make their way up it and on the other side to get supplies to the next camp - it's a lot of fun! I usually recommend we take our time and enjoy our morning at camp and wait for the majority of people to go ahead and we can then enjoy a leisurely climb. After all, we have plenty of time to get to Karanga Camp.

Saturday 8 August: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

The first hour is a relentless climb up on a rather lunar-like landscape. The incline eases and from there it’s straightforward to Barafu ridge where  we will have lunch and spend the rest of the afternoon resting. Dinner will be scheduled for early evening followed by a briefing and an early night.

Sunday 9 August: Barafu Camp to UHURU PEAK then down to Millennium or Mweka Camp

Awaking just before midnight, our crew will provide you with a snack. Then we climb for about 6 hours, with the steepest and most demanding  part by torchlight to reach the crater rim. From there it’s another hour to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on the African Continent. The warm morning sunlight reveals spectacular views of the plains below and of Mt. Meru in the distance.

Monday 10 August: Millennium/Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

This is our final day with the crew. We will aim to descend early and exit the park. At the gate we will sign out and receive our well earned  certificates. Soon after, we will perform the ‘tipping ceremony’ and thank our crew.  Afterwards, it’s a short drive to the hotel for a long awaited shower and celebrate our achievements.

The Lemosho Route on Kilimanjaro is graded as moderate to challenging, offering a longer, scenic ascent with a high summit success rate due to excellent acclimatization opportunities, but it requires good fitness and endurance.

Weather:

Early August on Mount Kilimanjaro generally offers stable, dry conditions, with daytime temperatures ranging from about 10°C to 27°C depending on altitude, while summit nights can drop to -20°C, making it one of the best months for climbing.

Water

Staying hydrated is important when undertaking any physical activity, it is generally recommended to drink at least 3-4 litres per person per day.

​​​

​​​​Altitude:

When trekking above 2,500 meters, your body must adjust to the lower levels of oxygen and some trekkers may experience symptoms of altitude sickness, which can include headaches, fatigue, shortness of breath, disturbed sleep, nausea, and loss of appetite. ​Everyone acclimatises at different rates, and while most of the team may experience mild discomfort, such as headaches, some may require extra care. Our experienced leaders and crew are trained to monitor and assist anyone experiencing any symptoms.

To minimise the risk of altitude sickness, follow these essential guidelines: drink 3-4 litres of water daily, avoid alcohol and limit caffeine, walk slowly, stay warm, and eat well, even when your appetite is low. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or take medications that might affect your ability to acclimatise, it’s important to consult your doctor before booking. While our team will do everything possible to help you achieve your goals, your safety is our top priority, and your local leader may decide to delay or halt your ascent if necessary for your well-being. Please respect their decisions, as they are made with your health and safety in mind.

Visa:

UK nationals must have a tourist visa to enter Tanzania.

​​​

Vaccinations:

​​

Recommended vaccinations include tetanus, typhoid and hepatitis A.   You will also need a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you’re arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission or transiting for more than 12 hours through a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. ​​​​

Severe Allergies

If you have a severe allergy please inform us at the time of booking. We will do all we can to help, but unfortunately we are unable to guarantee an allergy free environment on this trip. You will need to carry your own treatment for the allergy with you, as ‘adrenaline auto-injectors’ are not carried as standard. Whilst your leader is aware of our trekkers medical history, please also inform your leader on arrival of your allergy, and let them know where you keep your adrenaline pen.

Emergencies:

Our Leaders and crew will have mobile phones and radios communications in case of emergencies. The team are trained to deal with these situations. Please ensure you listen to your Leader during these times and refrain from putting any posts on social media.

Should you find yourself unable to continue with the trek, your Leader and crew will make the necessary arrangements. Depending on the situation, you will be met by the support vehicle (depending on access) and you will be transferred back to suitable accommodation or nearby medical facility as required.
